timeline
IN THE YEAR
1756
Historical documents attest to the presence of a playing card factory in Treviso… the beginning of a long story waiting to be told.
1850 - 1865
Brothers Francesco and Giovanni Prezioso run and develop the modern history of playing cards production in Treviso. They commission engraver Nani Inci to rework the designs of the Venetian cards on the stones used for printing. The designs of the Trevisane cards created then are the same as those we print today.
1876
Francesca Rind, a playing card manufacturer based in Treviso only a few hundred metres from the premises of Giovanni Prezioso, took over the latter, giving rise to a new company called Successori Prezioso.
1928
The Bennati & Dal Negro Successori Prezioso playing cards factory is founded.
The Dal Negro era begins in a relatively quiet manner.
1939
On 3 June, Fabbrica Carte da Giuoco – Industrie Cartotecniche Teodormiro Dal Negro is founded, thus giving rise to the brand Teodomiro Dal Negro.
1947
The modern factory is built in Viale Fratelli Bandiera, just outside the city walls of Treviso.

The 1960s
The first children’s card-games are launched: the Four Seasons Game and Pinocchio.
1973
1 January: abolition of stamp duty on playing cards, allowing for a continuous in-line production of decks of cards. By increasing production capacity and reducing production times, playing cards can be sold at lower prices, making them accessible to all. For Dal Negro, this historic event brings an exponential growth in sales, with the number of decks sold in one month reaching the same as the number previously sold in a whole year.

1974
To meet the growing demand, production premises are moved to a larger new factory in Viale Brigata Marche, in Carbonera in the province of Treviso. The production of playing cards, card games and customised cards is complemented by that of classic games (Chess, Draughts, Nine Men’s Morris, Backgammon, and Roulette) made by skilled local craftspeople using special woods and other prized materials.
The 1980s
Always at the forefront of innovation in general, and of printing techniques in particular, 4-colour printing machines and UV inks are introduced for making playing cards. The use of UV varnish also makes it possible to no longer need to use the ‘discards’ or protective sheets.
The new production capacity combines with success in marketing, allowing Dal Negro to achieve significant export growth, initially to the UK, France, Germany and the USA.

2002
We grow and change. New logistical requirements lead us to move to a new, more modern and functional production facility and Dal Negro moves to its current location in P.zza G.B. Cavarzerani di Carbonera (TV).
2003-04
The product range expands through the acquisition of the brandsof Mesenghini, playing cards for professional players, and of NTP, specialised in manufacturing playing cards for casinos.
protection
2005
The range of products is further added to with children’s games, thus creating a wider user-base, and a more varied target group.
2020
